Audio Book Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
Posted by Paul Clip under Fiction , Kids , Parents & Family , Science Fiction & Fantasy , Young AdultsHarry’s back for more adventures in the fifth book of the series. As usual, the adventure starts in the summer and, as usual, Harry’s not enjoying himself with his muggle aunt and uncle. The action progresses as Harry learns about the Order of the Phoenix and returns to Hogwarts to immerse himself in preparing for his OWL exams.
This book differs from its predecessors in that there is no overriding quest or plot. Sure, there are plenty of obstacles in Harry’s way but the main theme appears to be surviving a very tough academic year. To some degree, the main goal of this novel is to set the stage for its successor (which I haven’t listened to yet, as I write this review). If this book’s ending is anything to go by, book number six should be good!
Jim Dale lives up to his high standards. The “old” characters’ voices are all still the same, and the new characters sound different. It’s amazing how Dale is able to imbibe each with a distinct personality. This is a long listen, 23 CDs in the unabridged version. If you’re a Potter fan, you’ll enjoy it. If you’re not, this book won’t change your mind.
