Holidays on Ice collects six of David Sedaris’ most profound Christmas stories into one slender volume perfect for use as a last minute coaster or ice scraper. This drinking man’s companion can be enjoyed by the warmth of a raging fire, the glow of a brilliantly decorated tree, or even in the back seat of a van or police car.

“The SantaLand Diaries”, “Dinah, the Christmas Whore”, and “Season’s Greetings Greetings to our Friends and Family!!!”, all previously published stories, have been joined by a trio of equally charming newcomers.

A network television executive strong arms the congregation of a small Pentecostal church in “Based on A True Story”. “Front Row Center with Thaddeus Bristol” finds a bitter local theater critic savagely attacking the various holiday plays and pageants presented by the area’s elementary schools. And finally, in “Christmas Means Giving”, two competitive families celebrate the season by giving the gift of themselves.

If you can count on one thing from “Madea” Mabel Simmons, star of the smash hits Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea’s Family Reunion, it’s that she’s got something to say. For as long as people can remember, Madea has been in the neighborhood - she’s the beloved, hilarious, sharp-witted, pistol-packing grandmother who’s watching out and speaking her mind.

Now Madea is telling her own story, dishing her memoirs and hard-won, hilarious wisdom in her own inimitable voice (with a little help from her friend Tyler Perry). Madea covers every topic you want to hear her on, from the art of flirting, to love and marriage (sometimes two very separate topics), and raising kids (including the full story on the bag o’ belts). She also opines on beauty tips (featuring her indispensable advice on the miraculous benefits of Vasoline), the healthy choice of a deep-fried diet, and the Bible (including her favorite Bible story, as you have definitely never heard it before) - and pretty much everything else.

Madea has lived quite a life, and she has some stories to tell. And they’re all here. As she’s fond of saying, “Sometimes life is hard, and you have to laugh your way through it.”

Ever since Eve asked Adam, “Do I look fat in this fig leaf?” it’s been apparent that men don’t know how to handle women.

In The Mr. & Mrs. Happy Handbook, Steve Doocy attempts to give all men and women answers to the questions that arise in their relationships. (To the question above, the answer, clearly, is “No hablo ingles”.) This is a funny, provocative, and yet hopeful look at husbands and wives. Doocy riffs on everything from the first date and first kiss to last rites, and examines the crazy arcs that relationships take, from dating and proposing, through weddings and honeymooning, to being married, having kids, and making it work (so you won’t need a chapter on community property). Doocy has been married for 20 years, but he’s not declaring this a self-help book. It’s more of a Don’t Try This At Home book. He’s an expert on what not to do, because he’s already done all the dumb stuff and learned from his mistakes. Plus, for anything he has not learned, and for additional WMD (women, men, dating) brilliance, Doocy has included bits and pieces from his celebrity interviews, which will make the listener feel simpatico with the rich and famous (e.g., “Henry Kissinger and I have something in common: we don’t know squat about chicks!”).
